Delivery & Pickup Options - 35 reviews of Ya Hala Bakery & Grill 'If you are in the North Olmsted area and looking for some middle eastern food look no further, Ya Hala Bakery is the place! Let me start by saying their service is great and their food is so delicious. Apr 20, 2020 NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — Senior citizens have been urged to stay inside their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, but like clockwork, hot meals are being delivered to the front doors of dozens of.

OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio – The usual extended personal interaction is what Pastor Rich Bennett now misses during his Westlake Meals on Wheels stops. COVID-19 put a halt to his lingering a bit longer at homes to talk with the clients.

“With COVID it’s about knocking on the door, placing the food in a cooler or hanging it on the door and stepping away,” he said after leaving one of his Monday deliveries last week. “It is not as personal as before, but during the warmer weather, we conversed more. Hopefully, that will change soon.”

Westlake Meals on Wheels, like other organizations and services, had to change its protocol when the virus appeared. The organization has routes in Olmsted Township, Olmsted Falls, North Olmsted, Westlake and Bay Village. Some communities’ safety forces even helped deliver meals, when needed.

Marie R. Patten Blatter is the organization’s executive director. She made changes to comply with state regulations during this time. Everyone now wears masks. She said she had to reduce the number of volunteer kitchen assistants from four to two due to social distancing at the Westlake church where the meals are prepared under the chef’s supervision. Meals are placed inside coolers that are delivered to the drivers who wait outside their pick-up locations. A note is attached to each recipient’s meal. Like noted above, they are either placed inside a cooler that a recipient may have outside the door or inside a plastic bag that is looped over the door handle. The volunteer driver knocks on the door, steps away and waits for the client to appear and bring the food inside.

“This is something that obviously doesn’t bring our hearts a lot of happiness, but we are trying to keep everyone safe,” Marie said. “I am grateful we didn’t have to close during all of this. We were even able to increase our meals to more recipients. There is no way we will turn anyone down.”

That increase likely came from family members who wanted to keep their older relatives safe at home. They may have felt their visits could put their older family members in jeopardy so a call to Westlake Meals on Wheels brought them comfort.

“They knew we put these protocols in place. We did call our recipients to make sure they are OK,” Marie said.

During one visit last week, the client did not answer after a second series of knocks on the door. A few minutes later, Rich called the recipient who answered his phone call, then the door. Had the client not answered the call, he would have contacted the organization’s office. Someone there would call the recipient’s emergency contact to determine if more action should be taken or if the recipient was just away from the home.

Rich began as a volunteer driver last March. The group’s older drivers were asked to temporarily relinquish their routes so a younger driver, someone not in that more virus-vulnerable age range, could take over the deliveries.

“We have a 93-year-old driver who just called and asked when are you going to have me come back,” Marie said. “I had to tell him just not yet, but we’re getting there.”

Rich is a pastor of community care and fellowship at the North Olmsted Evangelical Friends Church on Columbia Road. The Olmsted Falls resident said being a driver is an extension of the services his church provides.

“This is a way to serve the senior population here,” he said. “As a church we reach out to a number of community groups. We tell them we are always available and they should just let us know if we can help. Your dating site near cadillac. Meals on Wheels is one of the services available to seniors.”

Rich has traveled internationally in various mission trips and hopes to continue that soon. Four of his children are adopted. One of them is serving overseas with their family in a missionary outreach program.

“I am not sure many people know of this service that (Westlake) Meals on Wheels provides. It is very helpful,” he said. “We get attached to the people here and when you don’t deliver to them for a while or any longer, you wonder what happened to them. They become a friend.”

The program provides two meals, one hot and one cold, Monday through Friday. Meals are delivered to the client’s door between 11 a.m. and noon five days a week. The meals are nutritious and tasty. Specialized meals are also available, thanks to St. John’s Health Center. All others are cooked, including dessert, at Westlake’s Dover Congregational United Church.

This home delivery meal service is available to the five communities mentioned above. Eligible recipients are those who are unable to shop for or prepare meals safely by themselves. This includes the elderly and those who are temporarily ill, convalescing, disabled or home bound. To begin delivery, call 440-871-2551. If necessary, leave a message and someone will contact you. The cost of the program is $45 a week. A recipient must receive meals five days a week, Monday through Friday. This program does not receive any government funding.

Westlake Meals on Wheels went above and beyond service to its clients recently. Marie said they called the group’s most senior recipients about COVID vaccinations, where they are available and how to schedule appointments. Marie helped the 93-year-old driver in the vaccination process using her computer while talking to him on the phone.

The Westlake Meals on Wheels program is a valuable asset to our seniors. If interested for you, a loved one or neighbor, call the phone number above and start the process. They will not only receive weekly meals but find a smile at the door – even if it is hidden under a mask.

Ann Reichle, owner of Angelina’s Pizza, supplied the pizza in the national program, Pizza Across America. Singles online dating bisbee az. Participating restaurants pledged to deliver at least 10 pizzas to a local food bank, soup kitchen or hunger-relief program.

Ann went far above that pledge. Her Olmsted Falls’ Angelina’s Pizza store donated 193 small pizzas to seniors who signed up for the event. Most of the seniors drove through the Olmsted Township fire station bays to receive theirs while 20 were delivered to the homes of those unable to make the drive.

The township trustees/administration have used such a drive-thru process at the Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center and at the fire station for other events.

Olmsted Township Fire Chief Patrick Kelly said he and his department enjoy being part of such distributions and as a “giving back” to the community.
